Smile GOTY edition or nightfall

im currently playing the trial, and ive decided to buy one of the games, and ive heard that prophecies and nightfall are the two better ones. Prophecies is like 15-20 dollars, and nightfall is 30, so i was wondering if nightfall is really that much better, and definately worth the extra money.

i dont really want to spend a lot of money, so please explain why one is better than the other

Don't forget about Factions so easily. Everyone has their favourite.

Advantages of NF over Proph are Heroes (customisable henchmen), Dervish and Paragon, inscribable weapon drops. Proph has an easier learning curve, and comparitively NF is quite hard. Proph also has skill quests, which give you skills as quest rewards, whereas in NF you have to buy them, which can get expensive if you want to experiment and play around with different things.

In group play (HM alliances, speedclears, etc) you are pretty much generally at a disadvantage unless you own all 3 campaigns and the expansion

GOTY edition is imho pointless
weapon bonus you get are generally inferior to what you can have later ingame.

did you check trilogy pack price, idk prices in your currency,
NF and prophecy should have same prices, where you found those prices ?

anyway if you choose to play with one campaign only NF/proph if you choose prophecy, it is probably the biggest campaign.
if you choose NF, campaign is probably much more shorter, but you have 2 additionnal classes, heroes and access to Hero Battle in pvp (it gonna get removed anyway... HB, not pvp)

Shop around - the trilogy will cost somewhere in the region of $40-$50. Unless you're on a really tight budget, it would be insane to pay for a single chapter.

I agree with the above poster, you can definately find these games cheaper (assuming your in the states). Try amazon or ebay but make sure the condition is new/factory sealed. I got the EotN and Prophecies dual pack for like $15 off ebay brand new.
Just shop around, itll be alot cheaper if you buy off the web.

I say go for the Trilogy or Complete Collection packs, you get a much better deal in the long run. If you are really tight on money or want to play the game more before you spend more money on it, get the very cheapest one you can find. That will probably be the standard Prophecies, although sometimes Factions can be cheaper.

If you're in Europe, you'd be a fool not to get the Complete Collection set. Easily the best deal.

If you're in the States, keep an eye on Newegg - they have the Platinum edition (Prophecies + Eye of the North) for $10. The Trilogy set can still be a tad on the pricey side, and they haven't released the Complete Collection on this side of the pond. They had Factions for $10 last week, but it went back up to $15. They also have GOTY for $10 but I have no idea why you'd buy that over Platinum - twice the game at the same price. Nightfall (as well as GWEN by itself) are still fetching higher prices; Amazon still wants $20 for NF.

I personally prefer Factions over all of the others, but Factions is a LOT more fun if you have heroes, so that means GWEN or Nightfall first, and they're both certainly worth playing in their own right. Prophecies for me is the worst of the bunch (and will certainly feel dated to modern MMOers not saddled with nostalgia for it) but because it lays the foundation for the plot in GWEN, indeed the plot of the world, it's sort of necessary if you care about the game lore. And if you're a first time player, the slow and easy approach of the first four chunks of the game, will certainly keep your frustration level low, as long as your attention span is long.

yeah what Paloma said. Trilogy + EOTN (AKA GWEN), when NewEgg has them on sale. Can't beat their prices.

I've been playing a second acct with both the last few months, and I created various characters from the 3 starting points, and as soon as I make it out of the noob areas, get the easy to get heroes (olias, MOX, ogden & vekk, and sousuke/jin & melonni & tahlkora & dunkoro & koss), then tool around all 4 games virtually simultaneously depending on what zbounties/zmissions are easiest to get to.

It would be best to buy the 3 campaigns (and later EOTN) in bulk.

I suggest saving up.
